Director Note: “This production of My Fair Lady will be unique and intimate, with a cast of 12 handling all the roles. There will be an immersive quality to the production, creating an “out-of-the-box” experience for our audiences. Cast members will be onstage, interactive and engaged during the entire production. The production will be accompanied by live piano, (and perhaps some additional musicians). We seek dynamic engaging performers who can develop strong characters while playing multiple roles. All must be confident movers, and very strong part singers.” - Sara K. Dean.
Roles:
Eliza Doolittle: (20’s, female, Vocal: Sop, A3–D6) is a spirited, determined, and independent woman from the lower class in London. Initially, she is a flower girl with a thick Cockney accent, poor speech, and little education. Eliza transforms as Professor Henry Higgins teaches her to conform to proper societal behaviors.
Henry Higgins (30’s+, male, Vocal: Baritone) a highly intellectual, pompous phonetics professor. He is brilliant but lacks social tact and empathy.
Colonel Pickering (30’s+, Male Vocal: Baritone) is a genteel force in the story, providing contrast to Higgins' intellectual arrogance and often emotionally distant nature. Pickering’s role as a mentor and gentleman is central to Eliza’s development, and his feelings for Higgins, though somewhat one-sided, is marked by mutual respect and collaboration. Will double as other characters.
Alfred Doolittle (50+, Male, Baritone) a carefree, unrefined man who initially appears to be a comic character. He is an opportunist, enjoying his life as a poor but unburdened man. Will double as other characters.
An additional 8 performers to portray the following roles, and various additional characters. Doubling will be decided after casting.
Freddy Eynsford-Hill (20’s, Male, tenor): Idealistic, upper-crust, enamored with Eliza
Mrs. Higgins (50’s+, Female) Higgins' stalwart mother, compassionate
Mrs. Pearce (any age, Mezzo-Soprano) Higgins’ housekeeper, practical and straightforward
And many other characters of a variety of ages, types and vocal ranges.
